Career Day with EJ Gold

Monday morning event with 6th graders in the Mill Street Gallery

This was wonderful to watch. I had been wondering how EJ Gold would do this. I thought he did a beautiful job talking and demonstrating to these young people about being an artist as a real option for their life.

But it encompassed so much more, it was amazing. EJ Gold told stories, made jokes and managed to demonstrate where it all starts as well as comes together...in color and sound, being one, in creating a mood with either, in being able to touch the heart, your being, indroducing physics and where we are in the understanding of the universe, all the while addressing all kinds of very practical aspects of life choices, possibilities and immidiate options for action today.
It so happens that the kids could even see which monumental size jazz paintings, which had just returned from the IAJE, were going to an auction at Guernsey's the next month, which was a great opportunity to discuss how everyone works together in a team to make something like that happen.
And they came away with knowing that they too can paint, they too can make music, that being an artist is a real choice.

In any case, they said it was fun.
